Let's all have a ball at C.A.T.'s 7th Annual Hair Ball! This fun evening will be hosted at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka, from 6-9 p.m. We've planned a scrumptious menu, fun games and prizes, and of course, our silent and live auctions!

Invitations will go out soon to purchase tickets and reserve seating. Right now we are hoping to find some friendly paws to help with sponsorships and donations. If you are interested in helping us put together the fun, click her for more info.

SUMMER FUN AND JULY 4TH FIREWORKS: ENJOYING BOTH SAFELY WITH YOUR PETS!

Summer is in full swing and the hot days are here. Despite the heat many will be celebrating Independence Day with family gatherings, cookouts, and fireworks. There are some things to keep in mind to keep your pets safe, so here's some friendly tips.

• With the higher temperatures it's important to make sure your pets get plenty of water. Grooming them regularly to help shed excess fur will also help them keep cooler.
• Remember when you're putting together cookouts that some foods and scraps just aren't good for pets. Give them their own treats to keep them happy and away from your food, and be sure to keep them from getting into the trash after those scraps.
• During the holiday and fireworks, keep your pets inside. Reassure them as much as possible when they get frightened. You might also want to consider putting them in a single room in the house where it's the quietest.

The Animal Rescue Site is hosting a special challenge for elligible Petfinder.com member shelter and rescue groups. The grand prize is a $20,000 grant, and they will be awarding many other grants to rescue groups with the most votes - a total of $100,000 in grants for animal welfare organizations. Imagine how many cats we could help!

Our change drive continues to be fun! The adorable ceramic kitty banks we've found have really caught people's attention. If you shop at C.A.T. or just feel like visiting, drop some change in the bank. Each time you add to the collection, you get a chance to win the bank! (Just the bank, not the money in the bank.) So far we've given away 10 banks and raised over $525! Bank #11 is all picked out. Isn't it completely adorable?

Not interested in coin banks? Why not try your luck at winning a bag full of catnip toys for your fuzzy friends? We've got a cute gift bag stuffed with all kinds of catnip toys. Each donation of 25¢ is worth one ticket to enter in the drawing. At the end of July we'll draw a winner!

Or if you just want to have some fun, vote for one of our kitties! Our Cutest Kitty Contest is in middle of the Summer Championship. The nine monthly winners are squaring off to see who is the Cutest of the Cutest. Each of the monthly winners won a spot to be featured in next year's calendar, but the champion will claim the cover of the calendar!
