HELP@CAT

There are many ways to help C.A.T. continue it's loving care of these wonderful cats. Fundraising events provide lots of opportunities to raise money for various projects. Donations of money or needed items to the shelter also help with the greatest needs. Every little bit helps, and it all goes to shelter operations. These are just some of the ways you can contribute.

DONATION OF FUNDS

  • Direct donation - CAT happily accepts all unrestricted donations. General donations can be made for CAT to apply to the greatest need or you can specify that your donation be applied to one of two funds: the Cat Care fund which goes specifically towards the medical and care needs of the cats, or the Spay Neuter fund.

Any restricted donations, or donations with attached conditions, must first be approved by our Board before they can be accepted. A donation made for a specific pet, pet program, or for a particular project (e.g. a building fund) is not considered to be restricted.

  • Donate to C.A.T. In Honor of Someone Special - People can be recognized by friends, family, neighbors and coworkers with a donation made in their honor. Great for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or just a special way to say thanks. Those being honored will receive a card from C.A.T. informing them that a donation to C.A.T. was made in their honor and their name will be listed in the next newsletter in the Appreciation Section. Gifts can also be made to C.A.T. in memory of cherished family, friends and pets. Contributions in honor of those being remembered are listed in the Memorial Section of the newsletter.

  • Donate online - Thanks to PayPal, C.A.T. now has an online account to make gift giving easier. Please be sure to note what you want the funds to be used for, such as the building fund, sponsoring a cat, operations costs, or other projects.

  • Annual Membership / Sponsor-A-Cat - It is impossible for C.A.T. to shelter all the homeless cats in Topeka, but we reach out to as many as we possibly can. Each one has their own story, their own personality, and their own needs. As a no kill shelter, they never run out of time. They will be cared for until the perfect home can be found. The number of homeless cats continues to grow each year. Individuals who want to help often don't know how to make a difference. Two ways to help are to establish a C.A.T. membership or Sponsor-A-Cat.

Becoming a C.A.T. Member is just a buck a month. Just $12 for the whole year and you're signed up for our free newsletter and our two mystery shopping weeks. Become a member and you're eligible to draw for a surprise discount the first week of July for our birthday and the week before Christmas. You could get a discount for your shopping from 5% to 50%! (Sorry, doesn't include Hill's Science Diet Pet Food.) So join up and join us for our mystery shopping weeks!

Sponsor-A-Cat donations of $15 a month help pay for the care of sponsored cats who are awaiting adoption. Contributors receive an annual C.A.T. membership and receive quarterly updates on the cat or kitten selected.

DONATION OF ITEMS

  • The Shelter Wish List - Many generously support C.A.T. by donating supplies to C.A.T.'s shelter. These generous contributions of essential items have enabled us to save a considerable amount of money. We do ask anyone wanting to bring items, to please contact the shelter since we have very limited storage space available. Because donations may be tax deductible, we will be glad to provide a receipt for the value of any items donated. We have requested some name brand items when the quality has been found to be the best suited to our needs. (Items in bold are needed most.)

    • Pine Sol brand cleaner
    • Bleach
    • 1st Class Postage Stamps
    • Whelan's Yellow Trash Bags

    • Automatic Dishwashing Soap
    • Non-scented clay litter
    • Center-pull paper towel refills for dispenser
    • Scotchbright brand sponges
    • Laundry detergent
    • Scotch tape
    • Small & Large Envelopes
    • Post-it Notes
    • Printer paper
    • Dishwashing & Dishwasher Soap

We've also setup a wishlist email so that regular donors who want can be notified when we have an emergency shortage. If you'd like to join this list, just email us at wishlist@topekacat.org.

  • C.A.T. continues to collect aluminum cans - The proceeds generated by this program have enabled us to make some improvements within the shelter, including the purchase of a security system. Despite the discontinuation of the national "Paws to Recycle" campaign, we encourage supporters to continue can collections. Thanks to some dedicated volunteers, C.A.T. continues to receive funds from this process. Take a moment to remind your family, friends and coworkers that they, too, could be contributing cans to cats. A collection container placed in a good location could generate significant income. Businesses are an excellent source of aluminum, and we would be glad to pick up larger quantities of cans. Small amounts may be brought directly to C.A.T. Please call the shelter to make arrangements for larger amounts. Thanks to those who participate.

  • Fresh Step PawPoints - Several of our supporters have been clipping and sending us the PawPoints from their Fresh Step Litter packages. A volunteer kindly tracks them and redeems them for free cat litter. So if you use this brand of litter, mail us your PawPoints! The shelter goes through approximately 150 pounds of litter a week, so every little bit helps.
