There are many ways to help C.A.T. continue it's loving care of these wonderful cats. Fundraising events provide lots of opportunities to raise money for various projects. Donations of money or needed items to the shelter also help with the greatest needs. Every little bit helps, and it all goes to shelter operations. These are just some of the ways you can contribute.

Can't make it in to the shelter to visit the cats or drop off donations?  Donate online!  It's easy!

Just click on the button, enter the amount and your information, and tell us what the donation is for!

Making the donation in honor of someone special, or as a memorial to someone or a pet?  Be sure to give us an address where we can send a special acknowledgement card.

  • The Shelter Wish List - Many generously support C.A.T. by donating supplies to the shelter. These generous contributions of essential items have enabled us to save a considerable amount of money. We do ask anyone wanting to bring items, to please contact the shelter since we have very limited storage space available. Because donations may be tax deductible, we will be glad to provide a receipt for the value of any items donated. We have requested some name brand items when the quality has been found to be the best suited to our needs. (Items in bold are needed most.)

    • High Efficiency Laundry detergent
    • Pine Sol brand cleaner
    • Bleach
    • Ace Hardware Yellow Trash Bags
    • Automatic Dishwasher Soap
    • 1st Class Postage Stamps
    • Non-scented clay litter
    • Paper towels
    • Scotchbright brand sponges
    • Small & Large Envelopes
    • Dishwashing  Soap

We've also set up a wish list email so that regular donors who want can be notified when we have an emergency shortage. If you'd like to join this list, just email us at wishlist@topekacat.org.

  • C.A.T. continues to collect aluminum cans - The proceeds generated by this program have enabled us to make some improvements within the shelter, including the purchase of a security system. Despite the discontinuation of the national "Paws to Recycle" campaign, we encourage supporters to continue can collections. Thanks to some dedicated volunteers, C.A.T. continues to receive funds from this process. Take a moment to remind your family, friends and coworkers that they, too, could be contributing cans to cats. A collection container placed in a good location could generate significant income. Businesses are an excellent source of aluminum, and we would be glad to pick up larger quantities of cans. Small amounts may be brought directly to C.A.T. Please call the shelter to make arrangements for larger amounts. Thanks to those who participate.

  • Fresh Step PawPoints - Several of our supporters have been clipping and sending us the PawPoints from their Fresh Step Litter packages. A volunteer kindly tracks them and redeems them for free cat litter. So if you use this brand of litter, mail us your PawPoints! The shelter goes through approximately 300 pounds of litter a week, so every little bit helps.

  • Direct donation - CAT happily accepts all unrestricted donations. General donations can be made for CAT to apply to the greatest need or you can specify that your donation be applied to one of two funds: the Cat Care fund which goes specifically towards the medical and care needs of the cats, or the Spay Neuter fund.

Any restricted donations, or donations with attached conditions, must first be approved by our Board before they can be accepted. A donation made for a specific pet, pet program, or for a particular project (e.g. a building fund) is not considered to be restricted.

  • Donate to C.A.T. In Honor of Someone Special - People can be recognized by friends, family, neighbors and coworkers with a donation made in their honor. Great for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or just a special way to say thanks. Those being honored will receive a card from C.A.T. informing them that a donation was made in their honor. Gifts can also be made to C.A.T. in memory of cherished family, friends and pets. All of these special contributions are listed in our newsletters.

  • Sponsor-A-Cat - It is impossible for C.A.T. to shelter all the homeless cats in Topeka, but we reach out to as many as we possibly can. Each one has their own story, their own personality, and their own needs. As a no kill shelter, they never run out of time. They will be cared for until the perfect home can be found.  Sponsor-A-Cat donations help pay for the care of sponsored cats while they await adoption. Sponsors receive regular updates on the cat or kitten selected and recognition at the shelter and our outreach events.  You can even sponsor one of our cats through Petfinder.com!  It's like having a virtual cat, except we do all the cleaning and feeding!

We are very fortunate to have a fantastic group of volunteers who come and help us out.  Many come on the weekends to scoop litter boxes, feed the cats, and clean.  Some staff our outreach booths at special events each month.  Others help us with one-time projects like helping us put together one of our fundraisers.  If you'd like to help out or want to find out more about volunteering, please contact us!

We would love it if everyone helps spread the word about who we are and what we do.  Refer people to us, bring friends to see our cats when you visit, and you can even promote us on the web.  If you're taking a peek at our cats on Petfinder.com, you can help promote your favorite cats on Facebook or Pinterest!  Or follow us on Facebook and Instagram and like and share our posts! The more people who know about us, the more cats can be helped!
